What do we offer?
Welcome! This is the site for people desiring to cut energy consumption without cutting their comfort. Energy costs have changed drastically since the days when square footage guesses for heating and air conditioning sizing was adequate. This site is here to help people take control of their energy cost. As a lead residential designer for a major engineering firm and a member of the US Green Building Council, I know that the cost of properly deigned comfort systems can be prohibitive for many home owners. We also know that there are still many HVAC contractors who use rule of thumb guess work instead of mathematics and science when updating residential systems. This is harmful to consumers and the environment. By specializing in what is referred to as load calculations, I can tailor solutions to you your needs. Cold rooms, hot areas, imbalanced distribution, oversized, and undersized systems, can all be remedied with the right information. We are here to affordably provide that information for you. We have extensive experience in all types of homes with a wide array of comfort systems. Plus, we have the latest software to pinpoint design criteria for all areas of North America. So, whether you just built, or renovated, and need a new furnace or air conditioner, or if you just want to upgrade and take control of energy cost, we can be of service to you. While the window person tells you he can save you x percent, and the insulation and heating or cooling person says they can save you other amounts, we calculate which improvements will actually save you the most energy. Sincerely, Tom Branch, Residential Energy Counselor/Owner-Comfy House, 225 S.Starr Ave. Pittsburgh Pa. 15202, phone (412) 423-9034, Fax 412-203-2094, email, comfyhouse@comcast.net
We our frequently out doing assesments in the day, but we do return phone calls and emails between 9AM and 9PM EST Monday through Friday and randomly on weekends.
What you get
The Free Estimate Fallacy!
In this industry, so called free estimates are common. Unfortunately they are much more common than good designers and energy counselors. Remember also that no estimates cost nothing. The costs of salespeople or service technicians are built into pricing. Furthermore your time is not worth nothing. Weeding through several estimators to select which ones might actually be applying science to meet your needs can be a daunting task. With our service you can gain the ability to deal confidently with your contractor or direct wholesaler.

We specialize in old and new homes. Older homes with bay windows present unique comfort challenges. Whether you have gas forced air, electric resitance, hot water or steam heating, we can reccomend solutions for these types of homes.
When air conditioning, these taller structures require precise calculations if the top floors are going to be as comfortable as the lower floors. Unfortunately, we have seen many situations where these types of comfort considerations have never been scientifically addressed. We look forward to helping you and your architect or contractor meet all of your comfort requirements.
